What actually goes wrong under a house
Foundation trouble around Cadott almost never starts with the wall itself. It starts underneath it, before a single form ever went up: ground that was not carrying enough load, a footing poured too shallow for how the frost moves through Chippewa County winters, or backfill that went in too fast and too wet and never had the chance to compact properly. Years later that shows up as a wall that leans, a stair-step crack running through the block or poured concrete, or a basement that is dry all summer and wet every spring thaw.
Retaining walls fail for a related reason: water pressure building up behind the wall with nowhere to go. A retaining wall that was never given real drainage behind it is doing the same job as a dam, and eventually it bows, cracks, or leans forward under the weight of saturated soil. None of this is rare. It is the ordinary cost of a foundation or wall that was built fast instead of built right.

How Cloverbelt Construction builds a foundation
The work starts below grade, digging footings deep enough to sit below the frost line rather than in the band of ground that freezes and thaws every winter, so the foundation is not being pushed and settled by frost heave year after year. From there it is forming the walls, placing reinforcement, and pouring, whether that is a traditional poured concrete wall or an ICF wall, insulated foam form blocks stacked and braced before the pour, which finish as a foundation with the insulation already built into it rather than added on afterward.
Retaining walls and basement finishing follow the same standard: drainage behind a retaining wall so water has somewhere to go besides the back of the concrete, and a finished basement built off a wall and slab that were done right in the first place. What happens if it is skipped, and how to tell
Skip the drainage or backfill compaction on a foundation and the ground around it does not forgive it later. Water finds the path of least resistance, which is usually straight through a hairline crack in the wall, and a small settling crack this year becomes a wider one after next year's freeze and thaw. On a retaining wall, skipped drainage means standing water pressure that eventually wins, no matter how thick the wall was poured.
The signs worth calling about are a new crack that is wider at one end than the other, a basement wall that feels damp or shows a white mineral haze, a door or window frame that has gone out of square, or a retaining wall that looks like it is leaning even slightly more than it used to.
